The second part is all about practical applications and how to increase certain knitting stitch patterns. And in the third part I talk about the all important difference between increases and decreases, while the last part of this video talks about stacking increases and why you cannot use the same increase in all circumstances.

    Norman, thank you for this detailed video. I especially appreciated learning the deeper science of felting. I thought you might find it interesting that acrylic yarn doesn't melt unless it gets up to 160 degrees C (320 F), but steaming it does something called, in English, "killing the yarn." I never liked that phrase, so I looked up the etymology of it today, and it turns out that "kill" has been used since 1610 to mean "to nullify or neutralize the qualities of" something. Who knew? The other phrase that I've seen a lot is that steaming acrylic "relaxes the fibers," but I haven't seen any description of what is happening during that process. I know yarn can be tightly wound, but tense? I don't get it. I thought you might find it a fun question to look into sometime.

    @NimbleNeedles There is another cable Chiaogoo offers now SWIV 360 they are flexible and make MagicLoop more tolerable. The only thing that I personally experienced with this cable is the "plug" that holds the cable in the shaft below the hole where you tighten with the TPin....un screwed itself and blocked the hole. There's a fix for this.... an eye glass repair screwdriver. Insert it into the shaft an screw it back into place. This information was supplied by Chiagoo. Otherwise I truly appreciate your help and support. I share your page with a lot of my knitting buddies, who also fine your videos very informative and relevant. Thank you so much for taking time out to help me become a better knitter.

    I found this same thing when I was knitting a cardigan several years ago!! I was doing short rows in pattern, though, so I thought it was just the fact that I was doing seed stitch, and so had purl and knit stitches on both back and front. I ended up purling some stitches through the back loop (tricky but doable), knitting some through the back loop and knitting / purling the normal way some stitches to get them to come out untwisted, depending on what the underlying stitch was (ie. knit or purl). I don't remember pulling stitches to the front, but it all did work out. German short rows were the only short row method I could find that really worked for non-stockinette fabric.

    Hi Norman! I love your videos! I tried the KFB/SKL toe increases, and I like how sturdy and solid they look and feel, but my sock toes pull in on the sides. It felt pretty tight while I was working them. Will this block out into a more standard wedge shape? Or do you (or your viewers) have any advice for avoiding this? Thanks!

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles День тому

      interesting. KFB/SKL typically are rather on the looser side. So the result should definitely not be concave )__(. It should be more on the convex side (__). beyond that I am not sure I can help you. I mean, this video is already showing you how I do it so hm....not sure what else I could do :(

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles День тому

      well, that's why I increased in every second row. If you want/need to do it every row, I'm afraid I don' t have a ready answer for you. I'd need to knit a swatch myself to see which variation looks the neatest. My guess would be that two centered double increases (so still in every second row but inc 2 each) could be a good choice but that's just a hunch.
